Writer's picture: Pam PollardPam Pollard

Potting soil or good quality dirt without sticks

Bucket

A big stick, wooden spoon, or little shovel for stirring.

Water

Tea kettle or pot

Aluminum foil

1. Heat water to a gentle boil in pot or to a regular boil in you tea pot.

2. Clean the outside of your bucket so you don’t dirty your kitchen

3. Pour potting soil or dirt into bucket.

4. Remove any sticks or rocks from dirt.

****Be careful****

5. Carefully and slowly pour water over the soil and stir. The soil should be damp and slightly steaming. Once all of the soil is completely moistened, cover the bucket with foil.

6. The hot water and steam will kill most pests found in the soil.

7. Once the soil has cooled, it’s ready for seed starting.
